ABOUT THE BOOK:
My Dream Profession: Journey to the Perfect Career
Join Jane from the ages of 4 to 24 as she embarks on her Journey to the Perfect Career . Explore common vocational questions through Jane’s eyes as she writes about subject choices, extra-curricular activities, work experience placements and surviving the stress of exams.
Jane invites the reader along on her quest as she ponders, struggles and hits dead-ends. As we are drawn into the common scenarios of attending careers expos and applying for courses, we find ourselves asking the same “age-old” question:
“What job is right for me?”
Jane’s ventures include meeting a deaf girl who knew sign language, sneaking out of school to teach migrants to speak English and leaving her family to travel across Australia where she was unexpectedly asked to interpret at a conference of 1,000 people.
From the first page, the clues are evident – Jane has the right skills and personal characteristics to become a wonderful speech pathologist. She’s fascinated by languages, loves connecting through music and hand signs and has a natural ability to teach others. Add to that, Jane is a thinker, a doer and is driven to solve her own problems.
Known for her caring and patient attitude towards children and animals, Jane seemed destined to end up in a helping profession, where she could find meaning in enhancing the lives of others.
Now a speech pathologist of 28 years , Jane is still counting her lucky stars that she found her dream profession. But just how did she find it? Or…
did speech pathology find her?
