    SPEECH PATHOLOGY ASSISTANTS AT AASP

All Areas Speech Pathology employs a number of speech pathology assistants (SPAs) who work with clients to implement therapy activities within clinic and home/school locations.

At AASP, our SPAs work on speech and language skills, including:

    • Articulation Skills
    • Oral to Literate Language Skills
    • Expressive Language Skills
    • Receptive Language Skills

    Our speech pathology assistants include:

    • Allied Health Assistants (Certificate 1V)
    • Educators (with a primary teaching background)
    • Educators (with an early childhood background)
    • University Speech Pathology / Allied Health Students
    • Vocal Coaches
    • People with other relevant skills / backgrounds

All speech pathology assessments are conducted by qualified speech pathologists. Speech pathology programs are also created and reviewed by the speech pathologists.

Sessions with a speech pathology assistant are conducted for numerous reasons, but are not implemented to replace the role of our AASP qualified speech pathologists. Instead, the SPAs provide a valuable contribution to a team approach, by playing an important role in implementing speech pathology programs.

The sessions provided by the SPAs can be spaced to occur between speech pathology appointments or can occur as a block of sessions, followed by a speech pathology review.

Many clients find the flexibility and lower cost of SPA sessions to be helpful in their overall speech pathology treatment plan.

At all times, the SPAs work closely with our Speech Pathologists and receive supervision and training according to their caseload, experience and supervisory requirements.
